I absolutely love this TED Talk, and have watched it several times throughout my teaching career. My favorite part is when Rita says "Kids don't learn from people they don't like." I believe that building relationships with your students is the first thing that needs to happen in the classroom, it's the foundation on which learning begins. I also like that she points out the importance of focusing on the positives, not the negatives, and how focusing on the positive gives students hope and confidence.
I've never heard this video and I absolutely loved it. When I was a second grade teacher I never wrote a bad grade on a child's paper if they failed. I would draw a sad face and tell them we will work on it. She has such a positive attitude and way of teaching.
