I love this quote by Renatta Cooper. I believe that all children should have access to an early education and a childhood. If children don't have the education they need they will not be able to compete with their peers when they get older. It is disheartening that after all these years (not taking credit away from the progress that has been made) there are still so many disparities when it comes to education and social justice. Education is not just for the classrooms. It is also needed on local school district levels, mayors, governors, congress and etc. I wish that I could see a world when all children have equal access to an early education.
The quote by Dr. Susan Bredekemp reminds me how children’s brains are like sponges when they are little. During children early years, their brain has the capability of absorbing so much information. This is one of the reasons people encourage the benefit of teaching children a second language early on in life. When children are in their early childhood years they are eager and want to learn knew things. This is also why continuing education for educators is important so they are always up to date on the most recent research, data and material so they can continually better service the children they work with. Continuing education does not necessarily mean degrees but ongoing training is always a good way to stay up to date on the latest information.
I so agree with your favorite quote “ever kid needs a champion”.
First, I really like how you included pictures with your quotes! The first quote by Dr. Susan Bredekamp shows just how important school is for young children. Children need access to a quality education as early as possible, where they can learn social/emotional skills that are needed, and learn how to build relationships, both of which will help shape their future schooling. I also agree with Renatta M. Cooper, that every child needs access to an educational experience where they get the tools needed to ask questions and investigate. Our students need us to fight for them, teach them, and set them up for the future!
Kathleen, I love the quotes that you shared about injustices and anti-racism. I was just talking with one of my teachers about this. It is my mission as an educator of not only little people, but also their teachers (in my role) to help people understand this better. My heart aches for those hurting, those who are discriminated against, and those who are at a disadvantage because of who they are... I want these little ones to grow up learning to fight FOR those who need their help. To be good people. And to accept and embrace others differences. Thank you for sharing these!
I find your post to be both inspiring and motivating. I can see that you have given much thought to you post. Thank you for posting and allowing me to read it.
