Who am I as a Communicator?

I enjoyed completing the communication assessments for this week’s assignments. They didn’t surprise me at all. I knew I had communication anxiety and I am a person that is people-oriented. I am not an aggressive person so moderate is a fair score for me. I don’t like attacking people when I think they are wrong about something. I just like to hear people out and see why they think the way they do. Everyone has different opinions and I respect that.

When first meeting me people say I am shy and quiet. That is completely true. I don't talk much. I am an introvert. I have also been told I am blunt and say what is on my mind when I do talk. It's like I don't have a filter. Since I have been told I am so blunt with a dry sense of humor, my family told me at a young age that I come across mean.

Professionally I do need to come out of my comfort zone and communicate more in small and large groups. My new position as Director of a childcare will have me communicating more openly and having me experimenting with the pitch and volume of my voice. It will help me if I feel confident in what I am saying. Also, if I am competent in my position and know the in and outs of being a director, I will feel more willing to communicate with confidence. Since I am blunt and have a dry sense of humor, professionally I do try and think before I talk and I have to read the room. I do like to know the people I am communicating with.
